Whoa man. Brutal.
I adore both, obviously. It was somewhat tough but I ended up going Vol. 4. It's hard to describe the joy I get from this particular Sabbath record. Right from the beautiful and deliberate chugging riff of Wheels of Confusion I'm totally into the record. And the way it segues perfectly into some of the best and most emotional lead guitar in Iommi's catalog, I'm floored. Then the rest of the album keeps me on my toes, switching up styles, doing weird random shit. And providing some of the greatest songs in hard rock/metal history like Supernaut and Snowblind, again, the Opener Wheels of Confusion/The Straightener, and Tomorrow's Dream (what a fucking HEAVY riff. I love It!). Also Sabbath is maybe my favorite Metal band ever (behind only Slayer) and this being my favorite album of theirs, it's hard to imagine anything getting a vote over Vol 4. in metal albums or definitely in this tournament. Pretty sure Reign In Blood could pull it off.
Filosofem may be more distinctly it's own. It carved out its own singular sound and ambience which I adore. And there are also some transcendent moments on it. Sometimes I can't get through the 20+ minute ambient piece. So as a record I may abandon it before its conclusion more often than Vol. 4, which gives Vol. 4 the edge.
Both are brilliant and chart level favorites of mine. Really one of the best matchups I've seen yet (if not THE pound for pound best matchup.) _________________ -Ryan

Hey check it out, both your nominated albums are facing each other. Cool.
Vol 4 is awesome. Supernaut, Wheels of Confusion, and Snowblind are as good as the best from self-titled and Paranoid. This tourney excludes albums in the top 750 and I really don't know how Vol 4 isn't higher. Why isn't it higher?

This is currently tied, and unfortunately since we're down to 8 albums I can't post the matchups until I know who wins this. If you cast the deciding vote, please reply to this since I probably won't remember to check in all that many times.
Regardless of how long it takes to get another vote I'm going to hold off until next Sunday to post the next round, just to make sure we have the full week for voting. _________________ And it's hard to be a human being. And it's harder as anything else.
