2016. What a year. Like, yeah, it was a pretty shitty year, but at least there was a bucketload of fantastic films. Remember that time La La Land won Best Picture and then they didn't? Yeah man, crazy.

To celebrate it, we're going to do a short poll to see what BEA thought were the best films (and documentaries) of the year.

There are also going to be two sub-categories Very Happy

5 Best Male Performances
&
5 Best Female Performances

Which you may submit up to 10 performances each, but the final list will be the top 5.

I also insist that users include a note as to what they considered the 'biggest surprise' or 'most underrated' film of the year. This won't be tallied, but hopefully it will shell out some recommendations.

The gist/ rules:

BEA's composes a list of our 50 favourite films of 2016.

All lists will be PMed to me, maxing out at 50. The final list will be 50 films. I'll be accepting lists of any denotation up to 50. The size of your list determines it's weight. Films must be longer than 40 minutes. Films must have an international premiere date between January 1st 2016 and December 31st 2016.

Documentaries are allowed.

Lists will also be accepted in IMDb and Letterboxd format. Deadline will be April 8th.

Releases that are not allowed:
Horace & Pete
Planet Earth II
History of Japan
Mad Max: Fury Road (Black & Chrome Edition)
The Lobster
The Night Of
The Witch
War & Peace

Releases that are allowed:
Lemonade
The White Helmets
OJ Simpson: Made In America
Split

Does split count as a 2016 film?

Yeah, sure, I'll accept it. That's fair enough.

Kodi is a dream for me, so many films I don't have to torrent due to this sketchy add-on.

Any other thoughts on my WIP list? or reccs I should watch?

I'll complete this list later. Have seen maybe 40, but there are at least a half dozen I should try to get to soon. But for now, these are the top 11 I really liked. Ranked, obvi:

Manchester By The Sea
The Handmaiden
Gleason
Arrival
Moonlight
La La Land
Hacksaw Ridge
The Birth of a Nation
Hail, Caesar!
Born To Be Blue
Everybody Wants Some!!

Yeah, it's a fantastic film. Best downer in a long time. Plenty of fantastic things to be extremely sad about. I gotta get around to rewatching it. The speaker system at the theatre had the bass on way too high for no reason.

Also, gotta be honest Mercury, I don't think I'm going to allow Born To Be Blue. I think it even had a few votes for our 2015 list.
