"when the system is altered enough", like what the hell does that even mean. if the system alters again do we have to revisit something and potentially revoke its innovation badge? lol this word is stupid |
It's just word we use to describe something new that changes the game and the point at which it's conferred is arbitrary to an extent.
If your SO does a piece of music that is fresh and new, but nobody else hears it, it can't be said to be an innovation. I'm sorry but that's just the definition of the word (until/unless the definition changes to become more synonymous with 'invention').

Oh definitely. It certainly confers prestige in various discourses and disciplines and can even perversely be used to preserve the status quo. It's all wrapped up in the problematic marker of 'genius'.

i forgot the website for dictionary.com but if anyone else can remember, I'd be really curious about what that definition is. I'm really excited to see how it means what people are claiming and how I am wrong

Joy Division are among my favourite artists... and that's why it kills me to admit that I prefer The Killers' version of "Shadowplay".

Gee, where should I even start here...
- The only reaction My Bloody Valentine's Loveless brought out in me was a migraine.
- The only really good Weezer album is their first (Blue) album. They have other great songs here and there, but not entire albums.
- But at least they made one really good album, unlike Oasis.
- Marilyn Manson's Mechanical Animals is massively underrated. It's one of the best rock albums of the entire decade and every single song on it is great. And this is coming from someone who doesn't even like any of his other albums.
- Garbage are right up there with Nirvana and Radiohead as one of the best bands to rise to prominence in the 90s. They're also one of the, if not THE, most diverse.
- Speaking of Nirvana, In Utero is every bit as good as Nevermind.
- Speaking of Radiohead, I prefer Amnesiac to Kid A and The Bends. And even though I'm a huge fan, Pablo Honey and King of Limbs don't deserve to be anywhere near the Top 1000 let alone in it.
- I like The Zombies' Odessey and Oracle more than anything I've listened to from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones or The Who, and I like all three of those bands just fine.
- Angel of Harlem and New Year's Day are U2's best songs.
- These past few weeks, I listened to highly-rated albums from Portishead, Aphex Twin, Sneaker Pimps, Beach House, Prodigy and others in the techno / trip-hop / ambient / dream pop realm, as well as former porn actress Traci Lords' 1000 Fires, an album I had to add cause it wasn't even on here. Lords' album was - gasp! - my favorite.
- It's a travesty an artist as influential as Gary Numan doesn't have any album rated above #25 here.
- Monster is one of the best R.E.M. albums.
- Sia is a much more interesting vocalist than Adele with the added plus that not every single one of her songs is boring as shite.
- Queen has some of the best singles ever but their albums are all so spotty that you should just skip right to one of their greatest hits collections instead.
OK that's enough for now.

Oooh, I like some of these.
Agreed on Queen, Gary Numan(He's got two slots in my 70s list, including one in the top 10), Monster is underrated, I adore Odyssey and Oracle, Mechanical Animals (and early Manson as whole) deserves a critical reevaluation, Oasis had some of the singles that defined the mid-90s, but frankly kinda sucked beyond that. I hate Adele, so Sia is more interesting by default.
The rest....meh. _________________ My "completed" lists:

Led Zeppelin is extremely overrated and the fact that most of their music was stolen from black culture irks me to no end
Kanye West is a top 10 artist of all time
Age of Adz and Carrie & Lowell both blow Illinois out of the water
The Velvet Underground > The Velvet Underground & Nico
Dark Side of the Moon is at best Pink Floyd's 4th best album
Beastie Boys are flat out boring and annoying
Bright Eyes is often dismissed for over-the-top lyricism but Oberst does have a brilliant way with words
The best Beatles album is Revolver, and its only the 8th best album of the 60's in my chart
Arcade Fire is bland
A Moon Shaped Pool will be in the same tier as In Rainbows and The Bends in a few years
If Kurt Cobain didn't kill himself Nirvana would be rated as well as Pearl Jam or Smashing Pumpkins
Can was the most important band of the 70s
Cocteau Twins are just as good as The Cure if not better
The Unicorns' debut is one of the best alt albums of the 2000s
Modest Mouse is the epitome of indie rock and the band I would refer anyone to if they wanted to get into the genre
There are a lot of 90s indie bands that offer the same things as Pavement
Nowhere by Ride is better than Loveless
Pet Sounds is the most overrated album of all time
Bob Dylan can't sing and his lyrics stop being deep once you're like 16
There is more diversity and quality in hip hop right now than rock
Kendrick Lamar will be a top 10 artist all time by the end of his career
Straightforward classic rock, especially in the 80s, is about as formulaic as modern radio country
If you have immense hatred toward Radiohead, I assume that you're being intentionally contrarian and also think you're hot shit for doing so. Nobody hates Floyd or the Beatles so religiously

I think that I strongly disagree with about 80% of what you wrote, and about 20% is just incorrect No hate though _________________ Finally updated the overall chart
