One of the greatest albums ever made. Adore it.
I really love an album like this, where it's like stepping into another person's life and feeling and empathizing with their struggles, and their emotions, and their thoughts. I'd say listening to this album is like being with Lucinda or at least being right there with a character or series of characters she's created. Being there on a road trip through life and places. And Lucinda paints such vivid pictures of these people. Whether she is talking about love, loss, life, work, sex or whatever, it always feels articulate and real.
And the rest of the album vibes with the stunning lyrics. Musically it's just an incredibly well made and emotional blend of blues, rock, folk and country of different kinds. At times soft, burdened and forlornly quiet, other times it's airy and sweet and at other times it's heavy and angry and not taking any shit.
Also god damn I love Lucinda's voice! The way it cracks and aches and feels. She is clearly one of the greatest and most seasoned veteran singer-songwriters out there. And every second of this album shows how much of an icon she is and why. I can't recommended this album enough. _________________ -Ryan
