I’ve consistently thought it was my favorite of theirs, but lately I’ve found Light My Fire unbearably long for what it is, and increasingly I prefer Riders on the Storm as a closer over The End, so Riders could possibly be my new favorite over this. Might need to do a back to back listen.

I love the Doors because they were so original.

"light my fire" was the noted big song (which for me was your typical Bruno Mars theme--the message that sex is everything).
"break on through"- is a better song and a statement
"the end"-after listening to this, you know this band would be going really deep
"back door man"- my favorite song on this album.
I think, the inspiration for this song, must've come from a girlfriend who loved getting banged "dogie style".
There is a ac/dc song, cant remember which one at the moment, that is very similar in nature.

I really love this album. AS Fischman stated "One of the all time great debuts."
For me its not their best work, i find morrison hotel a stronger album, but the popularity and polls prove otherwise.

What's the Brecht connection? That sounds intriguing.

As for my own thoughts on this album, I have yet to fully "get it." I enjoy it well enough, but it doesn't blow me away, and Jim Morrison is a better performer than he is a lyricist (really, they're often very simplistic). The musicianship is good though, for sure, on all fronts.

lyrics for "Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar)" were written by Brecht, featured in a musical sung by Lotte Lenya in 1930, The Doors then covered the song. I know this because it was an assignment I had to do for college.

Oh right. That actually makes sense, that song sounds like it would fit in a Brecht play.
