Isn't that a bit similar to the story of The Smile Sessions though? It's practically everyone's favorite album of 2011.

I think Some Girls is a fantastic album. But as often as it gets cited as underrated, I have to wonder if it actually is Wink

For me, the standout underrated album is It's Only Rock and Roll. It suffers from coming on the heels of their great run, so any album at that point is going to get some grief. Also, I understand that it's rather less edgy, and maybe even considered rather corporate (at least relative to the string that preceded it). It sits in the mid 1970s, when all those classic 60s/early70s rock groups were dying out, selling out, going disco, etc, so it has that guilt by association. But purely on it's own merits, I think it's an excellent album, chock full of great songs. I will always have that very high in my Stones catalog.

This is the only underrated Stones album (IMO). This is also the last Stones album worth owning.

I own them all haha. Some Girls is excellent. Tattoo You is a great 80s album. I'd say Emotional Rescue and Undercover are underrated as well.

Haha I like this album too. It's their take on funk and other danceable genres of the time and I'm not against that cuz I'm pretty open to various genres of music.

Indeed! Love it! 2000 Light Years, She's a Rainbow and 2000 Man are excellent.

It's Only Rock and Roll, now that is underrated! Especially Fingerprint File haha. Time Waits for No One. Every song is good.

Are you talking about Tattoo You? I always thought it was weird that the Smile Sessions was ranked so high in 2011 haha. I mean it's good but it was recorded so long ago and I'd rather give more credit to something new that year. Of course I'll probably rank Neil Young's "lost album" that's releasing this year pretty high but I'm a way bigger Young fan than I am a Beach Boys fan.

Black And Blue by The Rolling Stones

How can Some Girls be underrated at #6? Black and Blue, on the other hand, deserves exactly this position instead of #16. (Unless we are talking about non-BEA ratings. And they are of no importance.)

Sorry mate, but I find this album atrocious.

Then again, the thread is underrated... care to fill us in on why?

this was a pivotal point in time for the stones. so much was happening.
Immortal Mick Taylor left the band- this was huge. he wasn't getting paid for his guitar work ( in truth, he was being short changed). his work is amazing.
now, jagger and richards were in need of a new guitarist. so they auditioned new guitarists for this album.
there was a sense "of taking risks" with this album.
ie we have funk - hot stuff, raggae- cherry oh baby, blues-memory hotel
if you love traditional stones- take a listen to "hand of fate"- one of the best rock songs every produced by the stones. its incredible, and blistering.
also, crazy mama is wonderfull.
as well, fool to cry is amazing.
