Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.3/100, a mean average of 69.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.4.

It is such an underrated album and I hate some of the negative comments it gets on occasions. As the reviewer said "Fool To Cry" , ( a big hit) and "Memory Motel" are great ballads and highlights. Likewise "Crazy Mama", ( a favorite from when I first heard it) and "Hand of Fate" are great rock songs. But "Hey Negrita" , what a brilliant song. Funk, rock, reggae all in one. "Hot Stuff" a wonderful way to open the album. A mixture of Disco, rock, funk. This is such a great album. The introduction of Ronny Wood and on going contributions of Nicky Hopkins and Billy Preston are fantastic. This may well be the Stones most underrated album. (Edited)
Just a very mediocre Stones aöbum lacks bangers and cohesiion. (Edited)
memory motel is underrated (Edited)
Fora o reggae desajustado acertam nas baladas. (Edited)
Short, solid album. The ballads are just as good as the rockers on this one.
Best song(s): Hot Stuff; Hand of Fate; Fool to Cry (Edited)
Nothing really special here. Rating (71.88)
Totally underrated on this site (Edited)
This is an underrated album. It's often considered forgettable, but I think this is a pretty consistent album in terms of the quality of the tracks. The album is very much influenced by reggae-rock with some funk, blues and disco thrown in there. Less rock n' roll than I would've liked, but overall I liked this album. (Edited)
"Black and blue" è un disco che non ti prende subito anche per l'assenza di un vero hit, ma quando ti conquista è per sempre.
