Post subject: What's your toleration level of cheese in music?
I was looking through some 2020 metal recommendations when I came across a symphonic doom metal by Triptykon. I thought to myself, "that's gotta be pretty cheesy." Then it hit me. Make a thread about cheesy music!
I'm a power metal maniac who also kinda likes Tigertailz. It takes something incredibly cheesy for me to hate it. _________________ Do it yourself and let me play my music: https://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?c=61802
That's always been an odd concoction to me: Metal being cheesy. Yet I find A LOT of metal being cheesy. It's this weird thing where it feels like a machismo thing, yet ironically it feels more cheeseball like than metal machismo - it's almost the more hardcore you are "trying" to sound the more cheesy it gets. I guess that's the difference - trying and being.
And I'll have to agree with craola here - it's interesting how something can change from cheesy to emotional to cheesy again. It's totally a mental state you are in (any plug for Reader Response Theory=yes please).
For me, while something could be considered as being cheesy, it all depends on certain qualities. Like does the track or album have a heart? Is it charismatic or self aware? Do you enjoy it? If you have answered yes to those questions and possibly others, you don't find that particular genre or album to be cheesy because you the listen are aware to why you enjoy it.
