Still pretty hyped for Tenet even if reviews aren't the greatest, maybe it's just me wanting to go back to the cinema more, normally in there twice a week but haven't seen a new film since Dark Waters given everything, gonna see it this weekend and maybe New Mutants too. Also gonna get a cheeky Five Guys as it's next door (if it's open which I forgot to actually check).

Buzzing lads.

Some 99% sure inaccurate guesses for the Venice Film Festival—

Golden Lion: The Disciple (Chaitanya Tamhane)
Jury Prize: Nuevo Orden (Michel Franco) (this'll either be great or terrible)
Director: Chloé Zhao (Nomadland)
Actress: Vanessa Kirby (Pieces of a Woman) (I know it'll be Frances McDormand, but whatever)
Actor: Ali Nassirian (The Sun)

Line-up looks interesting, but I don't think there's any major awards contenders in competition this year.

Eight months into 2020 and I haven't the faintest shred of who has a chance at the Oscars (except for Billie Eilish, who's basically a given). Depends if any films come out obviously, but yeah. The Trial of the Chicago 7 seems to be the hot ticket, and supporting actor could be a bittersweet battle between Chadwick Boseman and Sacha Baron Cohen, but everything else is up in the air.

Yeah it was similar with me and my friends. Glad you liked it though.

Even though it's a 2019 film, I feel like Personal History of David Copperfield has a good shot at the costume/production design categories for the Oscars this year

Possibly a long shot Best Supporting Actor for Hugh Laurie, but pretty unlikely

No one's talking about Jóhann Jóhannsson's Last and First Men? A great adaptation, basically an audiobook (narrated by the one and only Tilda Swinton), accompanied by series of stills, with camera zooming in and out and all over the place. It's just over and hour long, and it tests your patience with its minimalism, but honestly looks gorgeous. Fun fact about the weird statues: "we are gazing upon the Spomenik, a series of communist-era brutalist sculptures in the Balkan Mountains, commissioned by former Yugoslavian president Josip Bros Tito, some as rather ominous Second World War memorials." (From the review)

Hot tea, Madeleines, a blanket and make yourself comfortable for 72 minutes of existentialism. RIP JJ.

Time's cryptic, cloudy, monoliths within fog, a grey edifice every turn—
round eyes of carved faces, frozen, bearing a boomerang's rebound, buggy—
cement and curved glass, eerily intact, the grey gloom of boldness peeking between haze—
a dullness overtakes, impending an endless unknown, something sinister, chilling, entering an absence—

In finality, eventually...

Thank you Jóhann. You left far too soon.

^ that's my... umm... "review" I guess.
