Yeah I'm always shocked when people downplay this and then the reason isn't because the music is bad, but because it's "not a real" record because the second half is a slew of singles.

Easily top Beatles record.

First half is great too, another shocker for me to hear.

I disagree with the above two comments concerning MMT being the best Beatles album, but it's still top 5 very easily. Psychedelic Beatles is the best Beatles. Revolver was an incredible game changer (especially in mono).

Glad to hear this is getting the love it deserves. It's a phenomenal album and among their very best. Pretty much on the same level as Sgt Pepper.

Sgt Peppers is my top Beatles album but this is top 5 for me. Great album.
It doesn't matter to me that it's not a proper album but technically a double EP with added singles.
It's such a marvellous album to play.

I like to play this after playing Sgt Peppers and get a double dose of psychedelia. Even better play Revolver first then Sgt Pepper then MMT.

Oh I guess I missed a single letter that construed my comment as THE top record instead of A top record... easily top 5 for me is what I mean. Here's how I rank them/rate their best. The rest is good and great "next gen" rock n' roll, but these are their most unique/what makes them much more than just a pop group, in my reality distortion field.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band The Beatles 1967 100
Abbey Road The Beatles 1969 100
Revolver The Beatles 1966 95
Magical Mystery Tour The Beatles 1967 95
The Beatles (The White Album) The Beatles 1968 90.9
Let It Be The Beatles 1970 90.8
Rubber Soul The Beatles 1965 90.7

Yeah really agree with this since Magical Mystery Tour and Sgt. Pepper's really could be like a double album (although I'm glad they aren't). They both play with this idea of a fake tour - the album is the live show we brought to you (that arguably is better than what we could've played live). Basically all written around the same time and with a similar artistic theme.

My favorite thing is when people try to tell you Beatles aren't psychedelic. Like if you pay attention to Penny Lane it's incredibly surreal. If you are completely oblivious, it just has barely more than a pop song going for it. And this is what I believe makes them so powerful - their subtlety and layers can both a "simple pop song" or an incredibly surreal experience. Depends on what goes on in your mind.
