I thought it would be a homerun for Ka’s best song, but Twist My Fingaz is funky as hell and I loved it. It’s gonna take some serious mental gymnastics to vote here.

Neither are on the periodic table. Ridiculous.

Laughing

Twist My Fingaz easily was what my capitalistic blockbuster ass needed.

I'll sing Ka's praises over most things anyday but this is like the best song of the best era of YG. Vote to YG

I adore Ka, and legitimately think that his discography stands up to any rapper's. His albums are just perfectly polished diamond after perfectly polished diamond, a heady mixture of minimalist, foreboding beats and whispered, angular, evocatively drawn impressions of New York streets that mean he's probably the nearest thing that the endlessly romanticised version of East Coast hardcore hip-hop that he peddles has to a poet laureate. However, he is also the ultimate album artist, a writer who weaves his tales in and out of extended metaphors that unfurl across 40 or 50 minutes for a truly immersive experience, and as such a rapper whose greatest strengths don't lend themselves to being heard in 3 or 4 minute 'snippets'.

YG, on the other hand, is the opposite, a rapper whose best albums play out like greatest hits sets, whose strengths lie in pummeling a West Coast beat - be it from DJ Mustard or the kind of lush g-funk revivalism found here - into submission for 3 or 4 minutes with a mix of underdog swagger, simmering paranoia, Compton pride, and deliberately catchy flows and mantras. This song in particular finds him at his cocksure best, claiming to be "the only one who made it out the West without Dre", whilst also showing he's tougher, funner, and funkier than just about anybody else around. It's a perfectly pitched nod to his Compton heritage, calling to mind the sunny barbecue drive-bys seen in hood movies of the past, music that can soundtrack pool parties and double homicides - you can feel your fingaz literally twisting into a "W" gang sign the minute the beat drops. To manage all of this, and to sound so natural and effortless whilst doing so, is what makes YG so special, and this song is his masterpiece.

Neither of these sound like songs from this decade to me. YG obviously sounds like the 90's and Ka sounds completely removed from all musical tradition. Ka has always interested me more than entertained me and I agree with Skinny that listening to his songs removed from his albums is a bit disorienting. I really like both of these but going with YG here.

Tough choice as both are great, but I slightly prefer YG's g-funk throwback.
