I still can't believe the Cate song beat out Beach Life-in-Death, which is the best non-hip hop single of the decade. Whatever... Sufjan easily has the better track here. _________________ "Those are you've got some nice shoulders, I'd like to put my hands around them."

Technically the wrong end of the decade though. Anyway, Fourth of July is still the Sufjan song that represents the shift to his new style that I do not vibe with and is probably the worst cut on that album that's not Blue Bucket - so this is an easy vote for Cate for me.

Some people had a hard time voting for a re-recording out of principle, which I don't really understand. And there is a strong contingent of anti-CSH folks in all of these tournaments.
Agreed - Sufjan and it isn't close. _________________ Add me on RYM
I also just think the rerecording is the worse version to be fair
I do agree with that. As I said in that round, I probably should've gone with Drunk Drivers or Costa Concordia, but whatever. I do wish a better song had beat BLiD at the very least. _________________ "Those are you've got some nice shoulders, I'd like to put my hands around them."
I really like 'Home to You', far more than most Sufjan or CSH songs. Really not sure where this idea that it's not a great song is coming from. There's some super harmonically interesting interplay between the husky, Nico-esque vocals, the slippery, almost queasy guitar, the playful chimes, and the soft, ever-so-slightly dissonant drone running beneath it all, making this a piece of gorgeous sonic worldbuilding that also doubles as an effortless slice of catchy, off-kilter pop music, like something that you might've found on Another Green World. It's really dope, far more interesting sonically and elusive lyrically than either of the songs it has come up against, and deserving of victory in both matches. _________________ 2021 in full effect.
