I'm not a big fan of Dio singing with Sabbath, but there's some great music on this album. _________________ Elder of the gentle race

While my mind will always align Black Sabbath with material from 1970-1978 first and foremost, I’m glad the Dio era exists. This record and Mob Rules that follows it are very solid with some of the best heavy music of the era.
This album’s title track is absolutely stellar. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

The Dio/Sabbath team was pure magic. Dio's operatic roar proved to be the perfect match for Iommi's downtuned sadly riffs.
From end to end Dio' vocal performance on this album is pure gold.
Iommi lays out some of the best riffs, and definitely the best soloing of his career.
Putting this totally over the top, Geezer lays down possibly the greatest bass performance in the history of metal.
Martin Birch's production brings it all together in sheer perfection, resulting in what is indisputably my favorite metal album of all time, and one of my tops in any genre. It is impossible to overstate the awesomeness of this album.

Preach, brother! Preach! One of my faves from 1980. Mach II of Sabbath had a completely different sound.
Top 5 Metal album of 1980 right up there with Iron Maiden's debut, Angel Witch's proto-thrash, and Cirith Ungol's cult classic.

I don't like this one nearly as much as I did several years ago, but the title track still stands as one of the best classic metal tracks ever. Up there with anything Sabbath have written. _________________ Finally updated the overall chart
