I also should have clarified when nominating: the album version (which I prefer) of "el cielo no es de nadie" is 4:21, 30ish seconds longer than the edit posted above in the music video. The content was really the same though, so if you didn't like the version in the video, there's not much more to gain from the slightly longer version. I think there may have been more interesting songs on Ela Minus' album Acts of Rebellion but this is the one that I dig the most. "el cielo no es de nadie" may be my favorite song from 2020. The album came out in October 2020 with this track preceding the album by about a month. While I believe the whole album was recorded pre-pandemic, this song (and the album as a whole, but mostly this song) had me longing for getting out into the world again, to go to a dance club (something that I didn't even like pre-pandemic...). But that's how the song spoke to me I guess. Thanks for checking it out.
@Gowi, nice nomination, the Sawayama album was brilliant, and this is my favorite song on it. _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!
I'm so happy Rina is getting a bit of traction here. I loved her fragile revivalism of early 00s R&B and I wasn't sure everyone was gonna feel similar.

Added the full audio version instead of the edited one. For what it's worth, I think it's a fantastic song. Didn't expect to like Ela Minus for some reason, so I've steered clear of her music, but this is right up my alley. Electronic pop in the vein of Kelly Lee Owens, Jessy Lanza, Rochelle Jordan, maybe even a bit of FKA Twiggs, and yet Ela doesn't sound like any of these great musicians, she's got her own spin on the style.
I like what Sawayama's doing most of the time, but the album is all over the place and really seems like someone's debut. The songs themselves suffer from similar problems imo. There's a number of fine cuts, Tokyo Love Hotel included, but even they always seems a bit incoherent and amateurish. Idk, maybe that's just me. Still like the song.
Super close call for me...really could go either way. I'm gonna vote for Ela Minus though just because there's at least a half dozen songs off Sawayama I like more. Really enjoyed her album though, Rina Sawayama is definitely a highlight in pop music currently. _________________ Griselda, by Fashion Rebels 2020's Hip-Hop 2020's Country
