Of the 3 noms, “Snow Globes” is by far my fave. I listened to that whole LP dozens of times, and Specieocally this track and “Concorde” in isolation over and over. Easily my fave song on AFUT.
I don’t know if there is a specific element that makes me tear up when I hear this, or is it all the aspects and how they come together. The way the drums build and explode at the end feels powerful and meaningful. The lyrics are obtuse and gorgeous. The way that one idea is executed; where the whole song just layers and builds… hardly unique but my favorite of such compositions that I can think of.
This song is just towering and easily would place high in any “Mercury’s 1000 fave songs List” I ever managed to make.

Side note: I was bummed my Grindcore song lost last round. It was always almost a cinch that it wouldn’t make it far, but the tie in voting for Knoll was surprising and I got my hopes up. Oh well. Glad y’all could hear the soothing tones of Knoll. Now I’m rooting for my 2 much more famous and well known tracks all the way. I don't get BCNR and at this point I'm not sure I ever will. Just does so little for me. Sorry don't really have anything insightful to say, just really not for me.
wasn't in love with the Aldous Harding track at first but it's slowly growing on me, goes to some fun places melodically, has an offbeat charm to it. Not yet sure just how much growing it's gonna do ultimately but atm it's more than enough to get my vote _________________ A Variety of Artists
Probably the most important match of the tournament.
I would divide all bets into three categories for clarity.
1. Administrative (very high rating).
2. Systemic (average rating)
3. Anti-system (very low rating or unknown).
Black Country, New Road - Snow Globes
The entire album is the #1 administrative bid for 2022.
The release took 1st place exactly a year ago in February 2022.
Many rating resources supported this position throughout the year.
Snow Globes is the only single for 2022 from the entire album.
In my opinion, this is the most ordinary unremarkable music.
A frontman without a charismatic image and catchy vocals.
I don't know of a single video that would disprove this.
I was very surprised that the captain of this bet is not the organizer of the tournament.
It is the administration that usually makes such win-win investments.
Aldous Harding – Fever
This is one of the most memorable performers of our time.
Any of her videos demonstrates how individual a person can be in principle.
Her vocals are not inferior to her appearance in terms of the number of unique overtones and roughness.
On Fever, this gets extra support in the form of a wonderful melody.
All this makes it a very dangerous competitor to any administrative protege.
As a consistent conspiracy theorist, I conclude that this clash in the first round is not accidental.
The stars do not want to give Aldous Harding time to promote.
Therefore, the draw already at the start brought her to the most authoritative rate of the year.
Her video is missing from the ring due to regular random technical inconsistencies.
In the USSR, the deficit was also the engine of development, but it was a satirical number.))
Apparently, heaven hides masterpieces to make finding them a worthwhile hobby.))
I really like BCNR, but Snow Globes isn't exactly my favourite thing they ever did, I think it's too heavily invested in the Godspeed-inspired/post-rock/crescendocore style.
Fever seems somewhat boring at first, but does so in a charming way, if that makes any sense whatsoever.
By the way, I'm surprised this one is so close, I'd expect Snow Globes to win by a landslide. _________________ Bob Dylan Charles Mingus
