Alvvays - Easy On Your Own?
Can Alvvays really have a connection with the coming end of the world?
Well-known signs - the four horsemen of the apocalypse:
White horse - pestilence (coronavirus), Red horse - civil war.
Black horse - trade fraud, Pale horse - Death, accompanied by Hades.
I named Black Country, New Road - administrative bid #1 .
This worked all year, but a month before the end of 2022, everything suddenly changed.
The changes were as amazing as the results of the last round of this tournament.
Favorites who retired in the last round, as on command:
- The Smile
- Black Country, New Road
- Black Midi
- Jockstrap
The formula that unites these projects is:
Black Country, New Road = Joy Division, New Order
In 1979, few people believed that Joy Division would become the prototype of the best band of all time.
Few people now think about the real role of Alvvays in this view.))

Billy Woods - Asylum
Once again, I vote for the entire 2022 album of this artist.
If this bet loses, I'll still win with my conspiracy theory.))

If Alvvays is the rigged "administrative bid", what does that make me in this conspiracy theory? An evil mastermind? Laughing

No way, man — if there's a conspiracy going on here, I'm the evil mastermind. You're probably just the Antichrist or whatever.

I probably wasn't ready for such a direct question just a few minutes ago.
But during this time, I accidentally touched on a lecture on the achievements of linguistics in 2022.
It turns out that neural networks have learned to write books no worse than people.
I hope no one takes my conspiracy theories too seriously.))

I have had problems with my left eye since childhood.
If the right eye had perfect vision, then the left suffered from myopia.
A few months ago, my eyesight began to deteriorate dramatically.
I blamed the monitor for everything, for which I spend too much time.

I am 56 years old and it’s too late for me to change my lifestyle, let alone the organs of vision.))
I made glasses with an open left eye and a closed right eye specifically for the monitor.
At first, I could hardly distinguish the text and got something similar to a sunburn.
Gradually my left eye began to see better and my right eye stabilized.

This once again convinced me that a person can develop any sense organs.
Obviously, all these changes can be with a negative vector.
Previously, I almost ruined my hearing due to the high volume in the headphones.
The brain automatically shuts off bodily functions that are redundant.
My left eye at some point became such an excess load.

Truly, I think musicoed has rejuvenated these forums more than almost anyone else in a decade. I never EVER fully understand his posts, yet I always come away thinking “I had no idea that would be the take, nor would I ever have guessed it in a million years.”

Anyway, yeah these are good songs. Tough choice/ I picked Alvvays.

I didn't really want to be the one to address the elephant in the room here, but it's probably more like Russian state media has been fucking with him, along with everyone else in Russia.

This actually has a lot to do with recent Western adoption of Ukrainian-based transliterated spellings for Ukrainian place names in English. So whenever we spell the Ukrainian capital "Kyiv" instead of "Kiev," Russian propagandists treat that as "proof" of a "conspiracy," i.e., an attempt by Western media and politicians to "de-Russify" Ukraine — which as we all now know, they consider as rightfully belonging to Russia. During the past 8-9 years, they've conditioned their people to believe Ukrainian culture and language are all just an "illusion," or a kind of "mass psychosis." That's on top of the fact that conspiracy theorists in general are already super-into things like intentional misspellings, numerical coincidences, weird symbols, and so on. And of course Russians also use the Cyrillic alphabet, so the whole Latin character-set is foreign to them to begin with.

Because of all that, when Russian people see a band like "Alvvays" intentionally misspelling their name, the first thing that occurs to many of them is that they're part of some sort of conspiracy, and since they're constantly told that all conspiracies are inherently anti-Russian, Alvvays, the band, must therefore be anti-Russian and, yes, evil.

Everyone else on this forum knows that Alvvays spelled their name that way because always.com was taken by the well-known manufacturer of adult diapers, and they wanted a nice .com domain for themselves, as evidenced by the fact that they bought (and are using) their "alvvays" domain. But as obvious as that is to us, it probably never even occurred to him at all.

Admittedly, I can't think of why he'd refer to New Order as the "best band of all time" when he doesn't even have any of their albums in his All-Time Top 75 chart. (I assume he's referring to Joy Division as their "prototype" because his English skills are a bit limited and he couldn't think of the word "predecessor.") Regardless, I hope he doesn't take any of this personally, as that's not my intent. I see him as a victim more than anything else, and his activity here most likely an effort to maintain at least a tenuous connection with the culture of the wider world. That's a good thing, and I don't want to discourage him, but at the same time I don't think we should kid ourselves about why he says some of the things he says.

Come on, it's not appropriate to make this conversation about a user's nationality and make all kinds of assumptions based on that.
