Really dig this one. Really great eery gothic sound whilst having this bittersweet uplifting feel to it, which is what makes it so special. Maybe drags on 10 or so minutes too long, but when you're really lost in it, it doesn't at all matter.

This record has now the reputation of being The Cure's best (or so I have the impression). While it certainly is good, and was a welcome to return to their melancholy selves after a messy, sometimes very good, sometimes terribly poor, double LP, it certainly isn't their best IMO. I don't like "Fascination Street" as much as some (Harkan, allegedly) do, and "Last Dance" isn't quite up to the standards the album sets in other places. However, I don't want to belittle this record, as some wonderful songs can be found on it: "Plainsong" and "Untitled" are my favourite. "Lullaby" was a good single.
Seventeen Seconds is still my favourite Cure album by far, and I feel it's their only real masterpiece (in an uneven but solid discography, with very high highs) and I must admit, as respectful as I can be of everybody else's taste, that I wonder at how few people have the same opinion, as I can't help being totally fascinated by its beauties.

I really like the songs that start with an indefinite article on that album, but not much else stood out for me. Maybe it's time for me to check out that album again. I also really like Bloodflowers which might end up as my favourite Cure album, maybe. Anyway, with Disintegration I kinda agree with those who say that it drags a bit on some tracks, but I still can't resist its ambient nature, really a great album to get lost in! _________________ "The Beatles, the greatest band known to mankind." - Bismah Mughal

It doesn't contain their best song ("Just Like Heaven"), and it's not their best album (Pornography), but it's still a stellar album. I know this sounds very strange for the content, but its a very summer-y album for me. Good times. I love it.

Such a great album and still in My Top 10 best ever. I played the cassette almost every night back in 1989. I remember seeing them live touring this album and the show was phenomenal. Plainsong is just about my favourite track though I love all of this album. Brings back some great memories!
