What you do is you pick one of your favorite albums (or any album really) and pick a different artist to play each song on the album. It's basically a way to think, "how would this song sound if [x artist] played it?" That chart need not be chronologically correct. For example, you could have John Lennon singing "Karma Police". Hell, you could have Mozart arrange "Hey Jude" if you wanted to.

Here's an example featuring my favorite album and a some of my favorite artists:

Black Holes and Revelations by Various Artists (originally by Muse):

1. Take a Bow by Hurts
2. Starlight by The Shins
3. Supermassive Black Hole by The Flaming Lips
4. Map of the Problematique by Sufjan Stevens
5. Soldier's Poem by Simon & Garfunkel
6. Invincible by Queen
7. Assassin by Jack White
8. Exo-Politics by The Killers
9. City of Delusion by Bruce Springsteen
10. Hoodoo by Love
11. Knights of Cydonia by Led Zeppelin

Enjoy!

A Night at the Opera by Black Sabbath. I've been wondering about this for a while.
Paranoid by Deep Purple
Machine Head by Aerosmith
Get Your Wings by Def Leppard
Hysteria by Adele (Adele's not a favorite, but I wondered what Armageddon It by Adele would sound like.)

I put some thought into it and tried to pick artists who I think would give an interesting take on each song, but also so that it would work as a cohesive(ish) album, which you could play from start to finish. First and foremost, though, it has to be something I'd want to hear, and my choices definitely fill that criteria. They may not be my favourite bands, but if I saw a tracklist that looked like this I'd be pretty fucking excited.

Various Artists - A Tribute to Pink Moon

1. My Bloody Valentine - Pink Moon
2. The Flaming Lips - Place To Be
3. Belle & Sebastian - Road
4. The Strokes - Which Will
5. Talk Talk - Horn
6. Fiona Apple - Things Behind The Sun
7. Tom Waits - Know
8. Radiohead - Parasite
9. Dinosaur Jr. - Free Ride
10. Can - Harvest Breed
11. The Fall - From The Morning
