I'm listening to Pet Sounds again. I understand now. Ironic. I planned on listening to this and then Sgt. Pepper and then ANATO to try and figure it out, and it took God Only Knows to figure it out!
A night at the opera is great, no doubt!
I would personally say it goes Pet Sounds>Sgt Peppers>ANATO though. Queen was pretty awesome though. _________________ -Ryan
If you were to find me on the right day, I would argue that Brian Wilson's solo piano version of "Surf's Up" is just as or greater than "Wouldn't It Be Nice", "God Only Knows", or "I Know There's an Answer". Smile sessions version is better (vocal mix on this is a bit lacking), but this is the first one I found, so yeah:
But anyways, I have always preferred this to anything The Beatles ever did. Granted, I've always thought the Beach Boys were really underrated as an albums band. They released more great albums other than this and were far more than just a singles band. Hell, I'd argue Smilely Smile, while not Smile, was a more than worthy (and is actually a masterpiece) follow up to Pet Sounds.
I'd agree that the piano version of "Surf's Up" is better than "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and "I Know There's An Answer," but it's definitely subpar to "God Only Knows." _________________ My top songs of the 2010s

Aw, I'm a lit late to the party but whatevs.
I don't get the magic of God Only Knows. For me the standout stacks are You Still Believe In Me and Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder). Both are beautifully sad.
Overall it's a great album, but it's not one I could listen to everyday because of how saccarine the whole thing is.
(and that's coming from someone who enjoys bubblegum pop and J-pop).
