The Pavement album, from what I've heard, seems pretty blah. Maybe it's a grower, but I haven't particularly liked them so far. I still need to listen to that BoC album. Maybe today will be the day.

yeah! Today is the day. I adore BoC MHTRTC. It's so layered and nuances and buds atmosphere so well and so uniquely.

I understand on Pavement. I think it is a grower. I also think "Crooked Rain" is a better album and a better entrance point to get into them.

Indeed. Don't giuve up on this one. Give it time; it's worth it. Have you listened to Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain, already? It's more accessible, and you may like it more. Then their first will be easier to get into.

Me too... I've yet to hear anything by BoC actually. I'll do it soon. But I have high expectations, as they seem to be worshipped by pretty much everybody here.

Edit : woops, I hadn't read Mercury's post in its entirity, and I repeated what he had said about Crooked Rain... Sorry x( But CDQ, that's a confirmation : you really need to listen to it.

Can't really say much on Boards Of Canada but I have no idea why Slanted & Enchanted is higher than Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain on the BEA charts. Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain blows it away.

Relistened to boards of Canada's "Music Jas The Right To children" and it really is an amazingly beautiful and intricate album! The samples and spoken words and the beats and effects all gel so well and build throughout it's 70+ minutes. Despite its length, never drags. And the changes are so cool and creative, so seamlessly some of the songs morph. Brilliant! On my chart after the very first listen for a reason.

I remember the first time I listened to this in full I was jogging at like 11pm and it was so strange and surreal, not really spooky at all. Just like a strange dream.

Started listening to MHtRtC, and gave up. It wasn't bad per se, but it was boring me. Gonna give Crooked Rain a try.
