Great stuff. We're lucky that RJ was recorded as much as he was because he certainly wasn't famous in his lifetime.
Pretty much straightforward 12-bar blues. It sounds repetitive and monotonous at first, but the innovative guitar riffs, syncopated rhythms, the heavily microtonal vocals -- this isn't just another guy strumming his guitar on the porch. He's a great songwriter, too. I don't go back to it frequently, but every fan of rock and roll should listen to Robert Johnson at least once.

Put this on my chart just yesterday (probably aided the album of the day). Yeah, I could say something about it, but I'd basically be repeating what sp4cetiger said. _________________

The recording on this one is not... too good. If they touched it up maybe the music would shine through

From the last listen of this album I remember the recording wasn't too good. It's mostly because of the recordings age though.

Exactly. Anyway, I think the low quality recording is brilliant. It adds to the album positively. But each to his own. _________________

I think many delta blues recordings really do suffer from their low quality (the early Leadbelly recordings, for example), but Johnson's recordings are in remarkably good shape, all things considered. Also, there's only so much you can clean up a recording before it begins to lose its soul.

One of the best albums of the day recently. This record is so great. I recall going through each line of almost every song and dissecting the lyrics trying to get exactly what was so powerful about each line that made me love every line so much. Them later I read Dylan autobiography and I found out he did basically the same when he was young. Honestly lyrically excellent. His guitar playing and voice are both so damn beautiful and spot on. I love the eerie slide, the kinda rocking rhythm guitar, the beautiful little runs. I ducking ADORE the strange beauty of the melody of Come On In My Kitchen! The gorgeous falsetto vocal of Kind Hearted Woman blows me away each time. And really the whole record is just STUFFED with classic after classic after classic. Once you fall for this record, there's no going back.
I wish Sweet Home Chicago was included on here though. _________________ -Ryan
