What an incredible album. It's one of those I try not to listen to too often because it's so rich, I want to listen to it forever and always find something new.

Certainly the greatest album to come from any of the "big 3" prog progenitors (Yes, King Crimson, and Genesis). This album is largely devoid of the sheer excess and cheesy lyricism that so plagued the works of the other two and KC's later works. Not to say that cheesy lyrics are entirely absent from this album, but while the likes of Yes and Genesis (particularly the latter) were more focused on storytelling, King Crimson focused more on creating vivid musical soundscapes and complementing it with equally vivid lyrical imagery. There's no instrumental wankery for the sake of instrumental wankery (also typical of prog at the time), and the technical proficiency and complexity, though notable, take a backseat to the songwriting.

Anyway, it's an excellent album. I believe it's on my chart, though I'm not sure at the moment. Definitely worth another listen, Puncture.

Is it solipsistic in here or is it just me?

OH MY GOD THIS ALBUM.

It's in my top 10 and it's incredible. Some of the best music I've ever heard. And holy crap is the instrumentation incredible. That drum part on "21st Century Schizoid Man" is mind-blowing.

I haven't listened to this in a long time, but I associate it with being stripped of anything human - just the sound of musicians playing technically good music, it just feels a little bit nerdy? I need to hear it again, though.

I'm gonna get so much crap for this but I feel that way about Rush. Maybe I should re-listen to their discography.....
