Just reading this: The 1980s: five playlists to define the decade and thought it would be interesting to see what you guys could come up with. Not necessarily the '80s, any decade and ten tracks that sum it up for you.
Interesting idea. I wanna do the 90s cuz - idk. I just feel like the 90s have a distinct nostalgic aspect for me.
This list is kinda random. Some are just songs that just feel exactly like the 90s to me like when I think of the 90s or if I was gonna make a movie based on the life of American youth in the 90s these songs would have to be included (The bends and Parklife). Some songs are just super popular and seemed to influence a lot of the pop sounds that came after and also are just so popular they are automatically associated with the 90s. And some are just so obvious I feel like a lil bitch including them. You'll know which ones I'm talking about probably.
Here goes...
Smells Like Teen Spirit (1991)
Protect Ya Neck by The Wu-Tang Clan (1993)
Say It Ain't So by Weezer (1994)
Loser by Beck (1994)
Juicy by Notorious B.I.G. (1994)
Parklife by Blur (1994)
The Bends by Radiohead (1995)
Hit 'Em Up by 2Pac (1996)
My Name Is by Eminem (1998)
Hit Me Baby One More Time by Britney Spears (1999) _________________ -Ryan

For a "songs that define a decade" list that is pretty much perfect.
Eminem - Stan
Sufjan Stevens - Chicago
White Stripes - Seven Nation Army
Jay-Z - 99 Problems
Strokes - Last Nite
Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood
Johnny Cash - Hurt
Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out
Outkast - Ms. Jackson
MGMT - Kids
(Just missing my cut is Clocks, Wake Up, Hey Ya, My Girls, and Crazy in Love)
