Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 79.0/100, a mean average of 78.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.0.

Bearable compared to their second album. There is a shred of energy distinguishable in this album at least.

Good album, and most definitely ahead of it's time. It's very experimental and sort of "mindless" in a sense.

Favourite Tracks: King of Spain, Pictures, Tugboat

Way ahead of its time, but a pretty mediocre indie album by modern standards.

Pretty bland Indie rock. Ive enjoyed the band before but this did not strike me in any way other than just sort of casually wondering when it would be done. I guess its just kinda uninspiring.

Boring as fuck. That's what this album is.
I remember sympathizing with them when I was a teenager but now I can see that was only because they were very indie.
Time shows the true.

This album has a very sweet charm to it. The flavor and timbre is rather homogeneous, but when in the mood for something mellow and fuzzed out (but not overly JAMC), go for some of this, you know?

I might be liking it more than on fire, more consistent in my opinion, though on fire has more peaks, it was just my first listen, let's see if with more listenings this status change, also the last song is a monster

Also this album should've been called "Symphonies In G by Galaxie 500"

Almost as good as On Fire. Definitely an overlooked album.

recorded undersea off the coast of cape cod
the sky hinted of snow
we wore sweaters and knit hats
we built a fire on the beach to keep warm
and roasted twinkies
we passed some Nyquil around and swapped stories about our dorms
Dean told a story about seeing Neil Young in concert
then we packed up the station wagon and went back home
Naomi fell asleep on Damon’s shoulder in the backseat
it was the best day of my life
