Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 83.6/100, a mean average of 82.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 83.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.7.

This album contains some of the most beautiful instrumental parts, yet most of the tracks fell a bit flat for me. This could have been a great album but for me it isn't. The Rainbow is my favourite.

Wow, this album is mind-blowing, maybe this genre (post-rock) is not one of my favorites, but amount of talent here is undeniable. The most otherwordly beautiful tracks are The Rainbow, Eden and I Believe In You, but Desire and Inheritance are close behind. My only minor complaint is Wealth which is a little too monotonous as a closer.

What an incredibly calm and serene experience it is to listen to this album. The music is just so beautiful with some outstanding instrumentation that is so delicate and smooth. They allow the music to truly breathe and we are greatly rewarded for that. We are treated to 6 songs that all feel significant to the record and all fit together brilliantly. The music just flows from one song to the next making it so easy to get completely lost in the music on here as it just feels like pure bliss at times. The Rainbow is a phenomenal opener as well and it perfectly encapsulates what the album is all about. Overall, a musically stunning album that is full of quality and experimentation and it demonstrates just how amazing this style of music can be.

This album is a masterpiece. One of the best of the 90s and of all time. The band was very brave to go down that path.

For me, incredible. Very uncommon; the record company let Hollis basically do what he wanted, and thank god! The Rainbow is just beautiful as an opener. A work of art. truly remarkable. Jazz roots, but so raw in parts. A must!
