Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. Incredible record likely overlooked by people who think they're just a disco band (a term Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards resented). Virtuosic musicianship by all involved, and especially check out Savoir Faire to those who only think of Nile as a rhythm player. Absolutely shreds and it sounds sublime. Biased to give this a rating now, but this gradually went from just another regular album to one of my favorite records of all time.

decent jazz funk soul
Very influential and very funky. Great part record.
Listen to those vocals, that bass, those sexy lyrics. A perfect album for a long hot summer night. Not one flaw. This is THE masterpiece from the disco-era !!!
