The first song, Leavin' Trunk is pretty amazing, the rest is ok. Certainly not a bad album, but the guitar playing of Harvey Mandel is the main highlight, as you'd expect an album named after the guitarist to be. He does some great things with backwards guitar on a couple of the songs.

The first four tracks, with vocals, would have been better with a good vocalist. Without reading the credits, you might guess it's Mandel just giving it a go, but it's not, it's a guy named Russell DaShiell, who's just not a very good singer. I'm a fan, so I cut them slack and enjoy those tracks for what they are, but still. Mandel knew everybody, he could have hired a hundred better vocalists. It gets significantly better when it comes to the last track of the first side and the whole second side, the groovy period instrumentals in Mandel's usual tuneful, tasteful manner.
