The thing is, this type of Rock doesn't appeal that much anymore, most of the al...""The fact that Car Seat Headrest came from bandcamp and is one of the few raw rock bands to have an album ranked as number 1# in this decade tells a lot of the current estate of the genre and the future of It as well. The thing is, this type of Rock doesn't appeal that much anymore, most of the alternative music listeners are more inclined to listen to a experimental Hip-Hop album or a art pop or art rock album like "Modern Vampires" or "A Moon Shaped Pool" at most a post-folk like "Carrie & Lowell". Toledo's progressive punk rock tracks of 10 plus minutes should be considerated old-fashioned, and left ignored. The thing is, distorted guitars doesn't have anywhere more to go, everybody knows that, everything has already been done. But, what makes Twin Fantasy so good, and what made It go all the way up to 1# (now It ain't anymore) it's his sincerity, his boldness, his in-your-face statements. Twin Fantasy was originaly released in 2011 in bandcamp, and It was the first major project of Will Toledo that at the time was basically the whole band. It recieved with time a cult-following but never reached a major public, not like It was with Nirvana or Radiohead, they stayed under the sheets. It was only with their 2016 release "Teens of Denial" that they reached somewhat of a bigger public, even appearing in TV, but the midias are diferent now, the people are diferent now, and they never really reached anything bigger than that. And they never will. CSH and Twin Fantasy Will forever stay as that statement, that little glimpse of anger to angered teens to enjoy. The atmosphere of the record is strange and psychedelic. The album is crossed by voices, malicious laughter, echoes, vaporous sample. Kid Cudi is really important on this album, for me, it's an album of Cudi and not Kanye West (Although we feel the presence of Mr. West in the prod.). "Kids See Ghosts" is a controlled chaos, a record of human tears, finished relationships and cut social ties. A record that is a new opportunity for Kanye to hit hard, especially at the production level with these songs changes of pace, trailing breakbeats and psyche samples. And when "Cudi Montage" and its loop drawn in an old piece of Nirvana ends we want only one thing: press repeat. Although it's being played this album is, for me, the best Cudi album and a very important album for alternative hip-hop.The only problem with the album is that it is too short. 9/10 Best track: "Feel The Love""  [+]  Reply

It doesn't necessarily mean its a fresh new genre, it may just mean its different from the usual barrage of albums over a few months/years or even just fresh from the artist themselves. Plus I dont think anyone stumbles upon beach house without knowing about Slowdive/Cocteau Twins. But even so, this album should be evaluated independently without having to compare it to its dream pop predeccessors. Just cuz you dont like an album thats otherwise loved, doesnt make them sheeps/inexperienced. (This is coming from someone who isnt a fan of Damn. or A Moon Shaped Pool.) "  [+]  Reply

So since that's not a huge deal lets talk about the music. The short tracks are very in vogue today but I actually think her ideas would work better if she took more time to flesh them out. There are quite a few duds here, but also quite a few moments where I think "oh there's some good songwriting! oh.. and now it's gone" I do hear St. Vincent (who is similarly if not more so wont to fly off the rails) but I certainly hear Angel Olsen (IMHO a superior songwriter, maybe not as impressive of a musician) I won't fault her for the uncanny similarities, because she clearly has been around longer and TBH I haven't heard ALL her earlier stuff but I'm just assuming it's similar. Just leaving this here for others who really liked this (which seems to be a ton) Overall - probably her best album (that I've heard) and it seems just a few tweaks away from having a ton of repeat value for me.
