Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 6% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.0/100, a mean average of 75.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.9.

Given the unique playthrough of the album’s sequencing, this record feels like a live album recorded in a pitch black room no bigger than a large closet. There is no audience other than the musical spirits the band is conjuring and conducting.

Very sparse, equally spectacular and special.

When I discovered this album, I listened to it once or twice and thought it was "ok".

Much later, I made a playlist of three albums--the final two Talk Talk albums and this at the end. Exposure to Mark Hollis finally paid off and made the album my favorite album of all time. Unexpected and I'm so grateful for it.

It's exactly what I would expect a Mark Hollis solo album to be: A late-era Talk Talk album minus the rest of the band. The arrangements are more sparse and stately, less atmospheric and more organic, and just plain less developed. He does present some interesting songs, but many of the others feels like ideas that don't have anywhere to go because he is so focused on doing it with the least amount of sound possible. Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock garnered their power from contrasting that mild subdued nature with repeatable hooks (in the loosest sense of the word) and more driven movements. This album seems to lack that for the most part. The songs as a whole never really develope much; they are often quite the same at any point during the song. The songs with drums seem to avoid this a little more, but not too much. A pleasant listen overall, but a little disappointing.

Truly beautiful. It was a pleasant surprise when Mark Hollis released this one and it is a great achievement that he took the last work of Talk Talk even a step further.

Can't fill the shoes of the final two Talk Talk albums. The listener mostly waits for something to happen. And yet it's still good.

Quite a nice piece of work here. Just need to crank it up a little, and let it take you in.

Quite possibly the quietest album I have ever heard.
