This album literally changed my life. And no, I'm not engaging in hyperbole. I had just started to get interested in new Orleans music in the mid 80's, having heard very little of it prior to that, and I was perusing the vinyl in a local record store. I happened to come across an import of this album, picked it up and took it home for a listen. I'd never heard anything that sounded like this before! I was hooked. This let me to a deeper dive into not just Professor Longhair, but all the music of New Orleans and Louisiana. Which inspired me to go down there. Which let to me falling in love with the city. Now I go down every year, each year digging deeper into the music and the culture. And it all comes back to this little sonic gem right here.
