Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. I quite enjoyed it, it was pretty straight forward but soothing which makes for an easy listen.
Atmospheric without being earth-shattering
it sounds strange, but not like in an interesting way or an extremely dissonant way that makes the shaggs cool, more like an *off* way. the vocals are bizarrely unpleasant and the production seems like an ill-thought-out, sloppy assortment of various presets. that being said, throughout "the floundering" it sounds like you're being submerged underwater which conceptually works and is a nice touch - all those bubble sounds and sprays of water. besides that, i'm struggling to think of merits, however the final two tracks are the best here
