Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.0/100, a mean average of 70.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.4.

What a pleasant surprise. A comeback of Slowdive-esque proportions. Their best album.
A solid comeback album but nothing really leapt out at me. If you’re new to Ladytron may I suggest you start with the album ‘Light & Magic’.
An interesting listen. Good sound. Little bit shoegazey. Overall a good album
What an amazing album. It's true that after a while it might get somewhat repetitive, but it never ceases to amaze. Incredible production all the way through. There are several bangers in here that keep your blood pumping. I'll have this on loop for the next several days.
Ladytrons sound is like a blend of post punk meets electronic rock, think an electronic version of Siouxsie and the Banshees. After an 8 year hiatus this sixth album doesn't disappoint. The Island music video is like something out of a Black Mirror episode. It's hard to beat their album Witching Hour but this is still very good, probably my fourth or even third favorite of theirs.
I hadn't heard of Ladytron before today so fortunately for me their 7 year hiatus preceding this album has completely passed me by. Though I'm glad I've found them now because this project is pretty great.
The album often has the sound of a 2000s electropop album but the lyrics and atmosphere excellently subvert this. The artificial sounding synths and drums repeat to a disorientating effect and often sound part of a much bigger, and darker picture. The vocals themselves sound distant but always seem to have enough reverb to break through all the layers of instrumentation and get across some pretty grim lyrics, that again work against the atmosphere that this kind of music is associated with. Overall it sounds like if an early 00s pop album had been forced to experience the last 15 years like the rest of us, and had felt slightly more worn out at things as a result.
The album does get a bit less impactful as it goes. It's not that the later songs are any worse than the earlier ones but the tracklist does sound fairly similar throughout, maybe it could use a bit of an edit. However, this doesn't take away from the fact that it occupies a pretty unique space. I've never heard this style of music carrying the atmosphere that Ladytron does. I look forward to going back over some of the earlier releases that I've missed.
