Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. On 'A Real Good Kid', Mike Posner openly explores and expresses his grief at the deaths of his father and other loved ones.
I've not heard him before and I honestly thought it might be a sick parody record, with its bass-heavy pop-rap beats and naive vocals. I had to stop listening because 'Drip' made me laugh out loud and that's just not appropriate.
Best of luck Mike, hope you've found some comfort.
Not for me. Modern pop music, which didn't stir me at all. Can't deny that this is an artist who is trying hard.
