Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 7% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.6/100, a mean average of 76.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 10.7.

Jun19. Consistently good throughout, but nothing brilliant or different. Too mid-paced. I know I need more listens, but only 'Back In The Woods' stood out at this stage.
Dec19. Well, listening to again now, some of these songs are starting to really gel with me now. 'Do Your Worst' is a cool opener and I actually love the slow title track. The riffing in 'Too Much' is a heap of fun for a slowish song. 'Stood By Me' sounds like The Black Crowes on tracks like 'Sting Me'; soulful.
There is a few so-so tracks towards the end then the sing-by-numbers 'Shooting Stars' which is a nice end to the album. Upping the score slightly. 3.5/5
ANOTHER Solid Album by the Rival Sons! Shooting Stars is a masterpiece.
Enjoyable little album, nothing you haven't heard before and clear influences on show, but non the less a fun 45 minutes.
All the influences are worn clearly on their sleeves but it doesn't mean it’s a bad record. Quite the opposite. A thumpingly good hard rock album.
I haven't heard a lot of Rival Sons work, but I thought this was a pretty solid little album. They get a lot of airplay in Canada and seem to be one of the more underrated rock bands worldwide. They wear their influences on their sleeves, but are able to create their own sound.
Key tracks: Do Your Worst, Look Away, Too Bad, Shooting Stars and Imperial Joy
