Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.4/100, a mean average of 73.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.7.

I didn't know Guy Clark's music before this record so I could not be disappointed by any turn away from traditional blues it represented. I really like this album. I like the diversity of styles involved. There is the funky "Got to Get Up." There are hip hop as well as traditional blues elements on songs like "This Land." "Gotta Get into Something" is almost like an early 80s new wave tune.
Some great songs. My favorite "Pearl Cadillac"
Stand Out Trac: Gotta Get Into Something
I have seen some reviews that were disappointed in this album as most tracks move Gary further away from straight 12 bar blues. This album is very different from his early work & live albums & that is exactly why I love it (though I do love his straight blues stuff as well). A great mix, of blues, contemporary , & Prince influenced funk set in 2018 Trump influenced USA & has some great lyrics on that very subject. There's great guitar playing throughout & I challenge even the most die-hard traditional blues fan to give it another listen. It will grow on you! You know what they say "if you stop moving they start throwing dirt on you"...
Totally undecided on this. Elements of Prince are welcome, as are the Funkadelic-style tracks. Good vibe but something patchy about it.
