I feel conflicted about this album because imo the songs are better and more consistent overall, but I feel like I really miss the punkiness and energy of the first album. I feel like this is too polished and slick for them, I get that a lot of people like that sound but it sounds especially lacking with them, and I feel like the production makes their sound a lot less particular -- with the first album it sounded like a really interesting mix of '60s pop and '90s grunge, which was also really specific. The focus isn't as compelling, but I like that the lyrics touch on a lot of in-betweens that get overlooked compared to love/breakup songs, though it doesn't have the brash honesty that the first did.

That being said, I think the songs are a lot more consistent. IMO the best is "The Game," followed by "Here You Go," "Dress Up," "Dead Wrong," and "California Friends," but all of them are pretty good.

Doesn't quite have the verve or energy of their more impetous, eye-opening debut, but this is still pretty stellar glam-y, doo-wop inspired guitar pop, still has the occasional scowl but a bit more warm-hearted this time around.
