I had never heard any Steeleye Span music before today, or rather I thought I hadn't. Having picked up a really good copy at a second hand record store for £4.00, my thought process was that if I don't like it then it's less than a couple of beers and I can use it for sampling. The first track was instantly recognisable and I was accused of listening to Christmas music in summer by my eldest daughter. Altogether, I am pleased with my purchase. After a thorough clean the album plays like new and reminds me a little of Fairport Convention. To be absolutely honest, I probably won't go out and buy more Steeleye Span but equally, I can see myself reaching for this once in a while. This is no criticism of the musicianship, just my personal preference. I also bought an album by Chicago and can see me listening to that a lot more.
