Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.6/100, a mean average of 77.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.0.

Great debut. Very catchy and some killer tunes on it. Couple of misstep fillers in the back end, but overall quite consistent.

Très bon album. Énergie punk, rythmiques hyper dansantes et refrains pop : un mélange très efficace.
Titres préférés : Take me out et Darts of pleasure.

Catchy garage rock/pop. A good debut with lots of killer riffs, Take Me Out being the highlight.

In 2004 something remarkable happened

On the very same day 14th September 2004 two of the all time great albums were released - ‘American Idiot’ by Green Day & ‘Funeral’ by Arcade Fire. What made this so incredible were the artists themselves. Green Day had been in a slump and all but forgotten as a serious artist and then seemingly from nowhere they emerge from obscurity with a masterpiece, then you had Arcade Fire a large collective of unknowns from French Canada with a debut generational album for the ages

There was also another landmark album that came out in 2004 just a few months prior to ‘American Idiot’ and ‘Funeral’ and this one was also a debut album and it came from an obscure sharply dressed bunch of party boys from Scotland with the strange name of Franz Ferdinand and a self titled album. Taping into the angular guitar sounds of Wire, Gang of Four and Television and lyrics dripping with sarcasm and homo eroticism it sounded nothing like anything in 2004. And to complete the package the album contained not one but two all time classics in the too smart for its own good “Take Me Out” (cross hairs as in gun- take me out as in shoot me .. get it ?) and “40’ “

FF hasn’t and never will get close to this 38 minutes of pure pop genius

Nothing particularly special with the excpetion of the perfect "Take Me Out" easily the best track on the record and one of my favortie songs. A couple of catchy tracks that's definitely worth a listen.

Best songs: "Take Me Out" "Jacueline" "The Dark of the Matinee" "40'"
