This is definitely one of the more honest, humble albums from Kanye. I won't say it's bad, but it doesn't really move me in any way. It's a shame that it doesn't really have the legendary level of production and creativity in instrumentals as seen in Common's Be. In terms of topicality, there are a lot of relevant, very real issues for sure but I've never just been a big fan of his style of delivery and lyricisim.

For someone who is not much into this kind of music and had so far only listened to KIDS SEE GHOSTS when it comes to the controversial Kanye West, this album was a pleasant surprise. I found myself liking this album more than I expected and I would recommend it to people who, like me, would usually not listen to rap.

And thus the world was introduced to Kanye West. A groundbreaking moment in hiphop.

A funny album, with some really emotional bits in It as well. Things that we nowadays Will probaly never see the same way again in Kanye.

Too self indulgent, even for Kanye's standards. Though not without its fair share of highlights and stellar production, this debut felt about 20 minutes too long.

His best album, in my opinion. Before the gross big-headedness of MBDTF, Kanye was just Kanye. His honesty and personality here is way more refreshing than that on any of his later releases. Not to mention this record remains probably the most fresh sounding hip-hop release of the early 2000s that holds to this day. 'Ye set hip hop's sonic standard for the next 10 years, easily.

Compare to this and Madvillany they are both great. But I am team College Dropout. Still banging to Last Call. Those synths are so dope.

One of the best production I have heard on an hip hop album. The sampling is incredible. Even though I liked TLOP, I miss the old Kanye

It's great until Get Em High. All the full songs are very fun and playful, and the interludes add to the message and aren't too tiresome. But after that it just absolutely flops. New Work Out Plan and that one with Ludacris are just terrible. And it gets really bogged down with the interludes and a 12 minute outro, and the decent songs aren't able to make up for it. If it were pared down to a single album instead of a double it could be up there with a lot of the rest of his discography.

Great debut in hip hop. Not his best, but certainly well-done.
