Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 82.3/100, a mean average of 79.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 82.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 19.4.

Kanye's best, but it's still deeply flawed.
It has a lot of really really good songs and sort of a consistent thematic through-line, to go with the best beats that soul Kanye ever made and arguably the best rapping of his career. The only reason I don't rate it higher is the length-75 minutes with a ridiculous amount of skits and a stupid long closer.
his best album.
Top Tracks: "We Don't Care", "Jesus Walks", "Through the Wire"
Incredible debut. The production and features on this are frankly insane. The 21st century has not seen a musical auteur anywhere close to Kanye West's level, and there is simply no better way for him to have introduced himself than with this blaring, confessional, genius work of art.
kanye's first and best album
My only issue with this album is that it's too long. There are easily a few tracks near the middle that could be gotten rid of. Other than that, great debut album from Mr. West.
I miss the old Kanye
Real rating: 72.5%
This is definitely one of the more honest, humble albums from Kanye. I won't say it's bad, but it doesn't really move me in any way. It's a shame that it doesn't really have the legendary level of production and creativity in instrumentals as seen in Common's Be. In terms of topicality, there are a lot of relevant, very real issues for sure but I've never just been a big fan of his style of delivery and lyricisim.
For someone who is not much into this kind of music and had so far only listened to KIDS SEE GHOSTS when it comes to the controversial Kanye West, this album was a pleasant surprise. I found myself liking this album more than I expected and I would recommend it to people who, like me, would usually not listen to rap.
And thus the world was introduced to Kanye West. A groundbreaking moment in hiphop.
