Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.9/100, a mean average of 75.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.3.

The album has a wonderful take of Dylan's 'I'll Keep It With Mine'. I've added that cover to my top 100 Dylan covers chart. The line up for this album also includes 2 of my favourite singers/musicians/songwriters - Iain Matthews & Richard Thompson.

We always called this "The Second First Fairport album." It was originally marketed in the US as "Fairport Convention," and was how we initially heard them, and it is so naive in its sound that it was easy to see as a debut. Then import copies of the actual first album began to show up, and we realized their first experience of the studio was just as awful as everyone else's.

But enough-- if all the Fairport albums in the world were falling into a volcano, this is one of the three I'd most want to save; naive, yes, but the instincts for grace and beauty are full grown. (The others? "Full House" and "Moveable Feast.")

Another classic album from Fairport Convention. This is beautiful folk/rock music with both Sandy Denny and Richard Thompson on top form. Fotheringay, I'll keep it with mine, she moves through the fair, and, meet on the ledge, are the picks for me. Great.

My favourite Fairport album with highlights Sandy's breathtaking performance of "I'll keep It With Mine" and the exquisite "Book Song".
