Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 23% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.5/100, a mean average of 72.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.8.

Lenny Kravitz's best album. Mama said, is a thoroughly enjoyable record heavily influenced by the likes of John Lennon, Curtis Mayfield, Jimi Hendrix, and, Prince. There are some great tracks here, from the hit single, it ain't over 'til it's over, to the ballad, stand by my woman, and the excellent, always on the run, featuring Slash on guitar. Yes, mama said, is deriritive, and a lot of it sounds like pastiche, but, so what, it's all good fun.

His best record by far. The songs are great and the production's got that throw back vibe. I love this album!

Very good funk rock/hard rock/psychedelic soul album. Best 10 songs average is 91,2/100 and the album can get very good 90/100. Best and full scoring song is "Always on the run". Followed by "Stand by my woman" and "It ain't over 'til it's over" both 95/100 and next "More than anything..." 90/100. All other songs good 80-85/100, except "What goes around..." average 75/100 only. Favourite!

An explosion of hard-edged guitar funk. A pleasure to listen to "Mama Said" has an exceptional sound. Kravitz's songs are tuneful, unapologetically retro and he wears his influences on his sleeve;John Lennon,Curtis Mayfield,Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone are blended into a cohesive whole while making it his own. Kravitz has a chameleon like ability to slide effortless in and out of music styles. Superb arrangements, folksy feel , soulful vibes, fuzzy hard rock, deep dark grooves, sweeping strings, lush harmonies and Psychedelic sounds all add to this outstanding album. Marvelous !
