Seether is a great single, and there are some other good melodies, but on the whole the album is undercooked and heavy on filler. The next album (Eight Arms to Hold You) is the record where they really gelled and kicked butt.

This is really good. No idea why it's ranked so low.
Veruca Salt is a favorite band of mine, and the best songs of the album ("Seether," "Number One Blind," "Forsythia," "Get Back," "All Hail Me") are spectacular. However there's also a lot of sleepy, uninteresting songs that drag it down. Nina Gordon and Louise Post have great harmonies and their sound is fantastic, a bit like 'bubblegrunge.' It's not seamless throughout but the standouts are fantastic.

Dynamic range is the bread and butter of Veruca Salt, but the soft lullaby sections of this record are duller and drag longer than future outings.

They seemed so cool and cutting at the time, but in reterospect, this is just an average alt-rock album.
