Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 24% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.7/100, a mean average of 72.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.7.

Simple Minds, Human League, Heaven 17, Pet Shop mix. Nothing that was not invented already in the '80s
Not my thing. Significance totally lost on me.
This album, and this band, was introduced to me by a then-girlfriend who loved the sexy, hedonistic joyride that is listening to these songs. What I appreciate most, though, is that listening to Hot Chip--and even dancing myself sweaty to Hot Chip--there is much more going on than mere mindless electronic escapism. Here Alexis Taylor, Joe Goddard, and company imbue their positivity with an almost spiritual significance, as on the fantastic dance anthem "Flutes," where they remind us, "One day you might realize / That you might need to open your eyes." And when I do, I'll understand how much there is to celebrate.
Half of the record is kick ass, the rest of the songs are just fillers. Too bad, this could have been one of my favourite in 2012 otherwise.
Hotter and more chipper than ever!
An enjoyable album, from one of the best electropop/dance-punk bands of the 2000's. Some of their songs are irresistible.
Don't Deny Your Heart is a standout.
Hot chip is back experimenting with their sound a bit to varied results. I love their extended jam "flutes" and like the added female vocals on a couple tracks, but some experimentation seems to extend outside their comfort zone a bit. It's not to a detrimental effect though. I like the female vocals. I like the out-front guitar on "". I like the additional backing chant vocal on "let me be him". I like the Midi Rain FX in "these chains". I guess it feels like this album could've used a little more studio play to refine all of these elements before release. Not on par with their last 2 stellar albums (both in their year's top 2), but on par with "the warning" and stylistically diverse (for dance music) like "made in the dark". Keyword = growth. This album further cements their status as one of my top 5 favorite current artists (along with radiohead, the decemberists, kanye west and the arcade fire) and is yet another sh|t-hot album (although i prefer "one life stand" and "made in the dark").
Flutes is a very good song.
Disappointing. Coming from someone that's liked every previous album.
