It was a solid follow up. I'd draw parrallels to this and A.A.L's (Against All Logic) follow up album. It's solid, but the first one was so great that I've set the bar too high. It's good Jamie xx sound, but this feels like b-sides from the first album rather than a cohesive project, unique take, or amplification of the prior work.

It's so crazy that this album was met with a collective shrug. In no way is it a meaningful step down from In Colour. Seeing Jamie xx able to breathe and let loose to this degree is thrilling with one compelling experiment after another. In Waves is as punchy and catchy as they come.

In my opinion, this album sounds like happy white noise. I don’t hate the album but I don’t like it either, what I do like is the album cover and All You Children. Give it a listen if you’re into electro-pop
