"This is the end of every song we sing / Alone"
The Cure returns with what will be remembered as one of their best albums of all time. Being that "Disintegration" is my favorite album, "Songs of a Lost World" strikes that chord really hard within me. It's a more mature work, that reflects upon time, life and death in a way that still feels genuine, but new at the same time. It's been 35 years since that timeless classic, and even though Robert Smith has never stopped talking about the same topics, this feels like a culmination. Musically, this is as intricate as their best songs, and lyrically, it is hopeless and full of gloom.
"Left alone with nothing at the end of every song"
It's an odyssey through love, war and loss. It's a journey that concludes with a hopeless note about not finding anything when you stare at the abyss, but still, the strings and guitars still give us some kind of hope, as this band traditionally has done. The Cure really have done it. 16 years of waiting for a new album have paid off.
I really hope this isn't the last album they put out, but if that's the case, it's been an amazing finish to a legendary career. Thank you so much for everything.

Amazing record, start from finish. Have listened easily like 50 times as of writing this. Each time I discover something different in the textures. It's beautiful, and haunting.

I didn't expect to like this as much as I did, especially since I didn't find "brat" to be anything worthwhile.

They never disappoint. It's unclear if we'll ever get another Smile album, but if this was the last of a trilogy, it's an excellent close to this period from Johnny, Thom & Tom. I don't like it as much as "Wall of Eyes", since I think it lacks some cohesion throughout, but still it has some great, great songs. "Instant Psalm" might be one my favorite songs they have ever written. "Zero Sum", "Eyes & Mouth" and "Tiptoe" are also all-time greats.

I've not listened to a lot of Xiu Xiu, but this is relatively accesible and it hits the right spots.

I didn't get around to FJM's last album, but I really enjoyed this one. It's very articulately constructed from start to finish. There's a lot of attention to detail and the musicianship is top-notch. Can't say too much about the lyrics since that's one of the last things I get around to when listening to music.
