This album is fresh despite that they borrow on ideas from 80s synth pop and rock acts. A lot of bands are aiming for that throwback sound these days, but I think Twin Shadow has figured out the formula to succeed at it. Fantastic Album!

The early 80s synth wave and mid 80s alternative comes to mind when i listen to twin shadow, a range including new order, naked eyes and the cure. Contemporary comparisons would include Yeasayer and Diamond Rings. There's a gloom behind the vocals of each song, where most songs are synth-charged upbeat numbers of drum machines and somewhat shoe-gazing beats. (If late-2011 single "changes" was on this album, this would be a borderline top 5 album.) Don't let the douchey cover art deter you.
