Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 7% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.9/100, a mean average of 75.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.5.

The production is great as it is in most of their projects, drawing some obvious influence from the West Coast, but at the same time sounding super modern. The lyrics are somewhat of a let down ("See, the moral of the story is: She a ho, he a pimp"). Assessing his rapping has always been tricky. On the one hand, he seems to hold his own to a more than decent level againist the guests, and when the guests are guys like Danny Brown or Kendrick Lamar, this is no small feat. On the other hand, I can't quite put my finger on the reason this happens, but he fails to caputre my interest for a longer period of time, maybe he lacks in personality or charisma. Also, the length of the album does him no favors, it's way too long. If I recall correctly, I had managed to listen to it just once back in 2012 and never bothered again in the meantime. However, I have to note that The Book Of Soul easily ranks among my favorites, one of the songs of the year, if not the decade ("Everything I love the most gets taken away My momma and music is next And if that happens before I turn 28 Then I'm going out with Kurt Cobain I still believe in God, we just ain't never spoke Unless we talkin' symbolically—then, I might agree But if you really wanna look at it that way Then, ayy, man, God don't like me").

Some real good tracks on here, good verses too. It's nice that these Black Hippy guys are making it okay to like West Coast.
