Ab-Soul definitely has potential, but doesn't fully show it in this album. It's not that These Days sounds unfinished. It's that it tries and fails to live up to the expectations that he puts on himself, despite its strengths (like the SZA feature, laid back sound, and Kendrick Lamar interlude).
I think fans of rappers like Schoolboy Q might be satisfied with an album like this. But with this album hip hop remains largely disappointing in 2014.
