Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 4% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.6/100, a mean average of 76.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.5.

They toned down the heaviness for this one. More sweeping ethereal musical soundscapes without being overblown. Dreamy and atmospheric. A sereneness throughout that doesn't stray much. Each song draws you in but they also do blend together a bit. Overall very nice.

Best album of 2012. Deep, impresive and full of soul and emotions. Untouchable 1 and 2 are excelent but all the album flies high

Only recently discovered Anathema, but I can't stop playing this album now. The songs are melancholic but just beautiful sounds. Favourite track is The Beginning and the End, but hearing Untouchable pt2 was what got me hooked.

This is the album that got me interested in Anathema. Beautiful and well crafted songs. Despite that, the gloss on this is starting to fade and I am leaning more towards their earlier efforts.

This album just pulls on my heartstrings. I don't care if it's full of music cliches...it's just so well executed and it invokes strong emotions in me, so it's one of my favorite albums at the moment. Emotional, passionate, well crafted, legendary.

Très bon album que j'ai beaucoup écouté. Un souffle et des sonorités un peu "progressif" avec certains morceaux très longs (The storm before the calm) ,retour à mon adolescence GenesisYesPinkFloydienne.

Outlaw is correct. I really don't want to like this album and I was thinking because it is is xfactor type of music. I really should not like it, it's pretty uncool all round. I don't know anything else by them but reading stuff looks like they get accused of being sell outs from what they sounded like before. Sort of on the fence with it at the moment but getting sucked in due to the really great first track. Must resist!....

Almost every song sounds like an X-Factor winning song! I'm serious! They have this build up and huge vocals. This would appeal to such a market, believe me! It's the building of this "we did it" atmosphere which gives this album its strength.

Beautiful music.... Simple harmonies and rythm that really get under your skin!
