Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. Most fantastic bands release an album that should of stayed on the shelf.
European Legacy and "Under Wraps #2" are both enjoyable, the rest could be bad B-Sides. The Synths and Drum machines didnt worked out well in my opinion. Especially after the great "folk rock era". Good thing is the mistake was recognized ...
So if I gave you a choice: Ian Anderson still with decent voice but awful songwriting or Ian Anderson with awful voice but decent songwriting which will you pick?
If you chose the former, Under Wraps is for you. European legacy is a passable tune, as is Under Wraps 2. The rest is just too awful to bear repeated plays. But apparently the live concerts during this year had better versions of these songs.
If you chose the latter, you have 1985-2000 of Jethro Tull catalogue to consider.
And then the 80s happened to Jethro Tull. Abandoning their whimsical folk-prog recipe that worked so well for them before, Ian Anderson fires the band, messes around with synths and drum machines, and this is the result. For completists and masochists only.
